Weather on the day had a bearing on the game with Murroe Boher playing with a very strong wind into the town Goals ,we lead on a score line of 1-9 to 2-4 at half time .
It took Ahane 15 minutes to draw level in the second half with our Full back line working very hard ,it was only by frees and a 65 that Ahane drew level before they got points from broken play to go into a 3 point lead,in the interim we worked a ball into the square and with T O Brien being brought down winning a 21 yard free ,Sean Tobin went for Goal but was stopped on the line cleared down field and the ball pointed ,it was then that our lads showed true grit with JOC defiant in central defence backed up by J Dervan,M Dee won a Great ball rounded his man and drew the next player ,shifting a heavy tackle M Dee laid the ball on to S Tobin who crashed the ball to the back of the net. JOC J Dervan worked a ball up the right wing ,Seamus Hickey ghosted inside the defence with Eoin Toughy breaking from corner forward to beat his man and feed the ball to Seamus ,he steadied himself and unleashed a strong shot on Goal but it came off the keeper this was our final chance for victory and we went down on a score line of 2-14 to 2-10 ,but with plenty of positives to build on for the Championship ,with our senior players doing the heavy lifting and our new younger players showing well and contributing to a great team effort ,no doubt the mentors will also have learned and the heavy training will pay off.Strong performances on the day from J Dervane ,Evan Walsh,JOC,S Tobin,Timmy o Brien with some great diagonal cross field balls and stand out player on the pitch Seamus Hickey.
