U-12 Girls Gaelic Football-Season off to a flyer.

U-12 East Championship:
The U12 girls got their East championship season off to a great start on Sunday evening with a fine 8-7 to 1-0 win over St.Ailbes (Gold) at Harty Park.
Despite conceding an early goal in the first half, the team rallied to limit a gallant St. Ailbes side to just that one score for the remainder of the game.
Roisin Crowe impressed in goals with some well timed saves, while the full back line of Leah O’Riordan, Roisin Dunlea and Aisling Moloney were rock solid in keeping the St. Ailbes forward line under wraps.
Ciara Beirne and Leanne Ryan marshalled the half-back line superbly; defending and linking play with their midfield and forward lines so well.
Naoise Duffy and Lauren Beirne excelled as a first time partnership at midfield to control the game; scoring 5-4 between them.
Charlotte Walsh (captain for the night), Lauren Redfearn and Danielle McMahon worked tirelessly in the half-forward line to find and exploit gaps in the St. Ailbes defence; Charlotte and Lauren adding some fine scores to the Murroe-Boher tally.
Jayne Ryan and Sarah Fitzgerald worked very well together in the full forward line to provide a cutting edge that constantly threatened the St Ailbes defence and punished it with scores and crucial assists on the night.
Two of our U10 players, Kate Madigan and Aoibhe Butler came into the game in the second half and belied their young years by seamlessly integrating into the team and making some key contributions to the forward line; Kate laying off a pass for a good score and Aoibhe scoring a fine point from an acute angle.
All in all, a great first outing and win for this young and talented team.
All the more impressive when you consider we were without  team captain Hazel Hourigan, Laurie Quaid, Roisin Kinsella and Muirin Van Nieuwenhove for this first championship match.
Next game will be away to Galtee Gaels on Friday March 29th (Good Friday), and we look forward to another strong performance and result in that match.
