Senior Hurling Championship

On Sunday evening last our Senior hurlers took to the field in the first round of the SHC where they took on near neighbours Ahane in Caherconlish. On a nice evening for hurling and in front of a big crowd our boys were unlucky to be on the wrong side of  a four point defeat. The Ahane team got the perfect start with a goal nearly straight from the throw in but our lads rallied with the next score from Paudie Mc and more scores from Mikey Ryan and Pat Tobin this seemed to settle our boys who were playing into a fairly stiff breeze. The team battled bravely and some great defending from the Byrnes brothers assisted by Finn Hourigan and Seamus Hickey who was having a great game gave the Murroe Boher Supporters hope for the second half but then Ahane struck for a killer goal that gave them a strong lead going into the dressing room Ahane 2-8 Murroe Boher 0-5

The words of the management of Ger Bradley and Denis Mulcahy seem to rouse  the boys as they stormed into the second half and started to cut away at the deficit aided by the strong breeze at this stage but then Ahane were awarded a penalty that Conor Moore was very unlucky not to have tipped away. Dylan Sheehan started to have an influence out the field after his introduction at half time and with further scores from Paudie Mc from frees and points from Conor Byrnes and Captain Mikey Ryan, the Ahane lead was being eaten away. Seamus Hickey was driving the players on then Mikey Ryan struck for a great goal to leave just four points in the game with the Murroe Boher dominant all over the pitch alas it was to no avail as a relieved Ahane held out  record the victory on a score of Ahane 3-12 Murroe Boher 1-14.

It was a disappointing evening for our lads as it was a game that could have been easily won but they have to pull themselves together for the challenge of Knockainey this Sunday in Caherconlish at 7.15 where they will hope to get their season back on track.
