County Minor Hurling Semi Final

On Tuesday night last, the Murroe Boher minor hurlers took to the field in Pairc na nGael to face a highly fancied Doon team in the semi final of the County Premier Hurling Championship.
It was a perfect evening for hurling but unfortunately for MB it was Doon that got the perfect start, hitting the net twice inside the opening 10 minutes. MB got on the scoreboard with a couple of frees and a great point from Dylan O’Connor. Doon replied with a few points of their own. Shortly before halftime Andrew Walsh fought hard for possession and then offloaded a pass to Dylan O’Connor who rattled the net. This left the halftime score Doon 2-09¬†Murroe Boher ¬†1-07
Second half started with a few postional switches for MB and the team gradually ground Doon down. Huge effort from Cillian Byrnes, Eoin Hourigan and Barry Cusack helped MB gather momentum. After points from Andrew Walsh and Dylan O’Connor, a lovely long distance strike from Jack Casey floated into the top corner of the Doon net to leave only a couple of points between the sides. A Kevin Clohessy free left it Doon 2-16 MB 2-15 with less than a minute of normal time remaining. In a dramatic sequence of play the ball found its way to Cillian Byrnes who was 50 yards out standing on the sideline by the open stand. With the last puck of the game he slotted the sliotar over the black spot. Like the other semi final the week before, extra time was to follow.
Matthew Hanly pointed at the start of extra time, but unfortunately after a mighty effort MB only managed to add 2 further points while Doon raised 7 white flags. Full Time Doon 2-23 Murroe Boher 2-19
Losses are hard to take but the MB lads went down fighting and left everything out on the pitch. Immense performances from Dylan O’Connor, Cillian Byrnes, Eoin Hourigan and Barry Cusack inspired the passion and committment throughout the team. Manager Liam Clohessy with Colin Brouder and Tom Lynch could only be proud of their team on a night where the result could have gone either way
