Senior Hurling Championship

SHC- Murroe Boher 1-14 South Liberties 2-12

On Friday evening our Seniors  took to the pitch in Cappamore to take on South Liberties in the first round of the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship. In wet condition our lads went down by the slenderest of margins in a game that we could have easily won.

The first half was a close affair with both teams going point for point in the early stages with Seanie Tobin firing over a few score from frees and from play. As the half wore on our lads started to get a foothold and with a great score from Darragh Kennedy and a fantastic goal from Mikey Ryan things were looking good but almost immediately Liberties fired back with a goal of their own to undo our hard work . Just before half time Liberties struck for a second goal to give them a major boost as they headed for the dressing room Murroe Boher  1-8 South Liberties 2-6

As the conditions worsened in the second half both teams tried hard with players slipping and sliding all over the place Seanie Tobin kept the scoreboard ticking over and two fantastic points from Dylan Sheehan and Mikey Ryan . John O Connor and the Byrnes brothers  Conor and Diarmuid  were now coming into the game and things looked ok entering the final stages with the lads a point up but a few needless frees gave Liberties the opportunity to regain the lead entering injury time. In fairness to the referee he tried to let the game flow but with the condition it created scrum like situations at times which should have been blown up and that eventually led to the final free  to win it for Liberties.

It was very disappointing for the team and mentors who have put a huge amount of work in but there is a lot of character in the dressing room and with a lot of winnable games to come all is not lost . The lads need to stick together and come out fighting the next day and I’m sure there will be good days ahead.
