East U21 A Hurling Championship Final

On Monday night M/B and St. Kevins went to battle on a drenched and muddy Oola field in the East u21A hurling championship final and what a battle it was. In diabolical conditions the few hardy souls that came to support didn’t witness ‘the beautiful game’ but what they did see was 2 teams giving it their all for 60 minutes. M/B started brightly and after 17 minutes found themselves ahead 0-04 to 0-00 with the storm at their backs. 2 pointed frees from Kevin Clohessy and a point each from Eoin Tuohy and Darragh Kennedy. St Kevins battled away but could get no supply of ball up the field into the wind. John Ryan, Cillian Byrnes and Dylan Ryan were commanding the defence at this stage while Mike Dee and Darragh Kennedy were on top in midfield and Jack Casey and Shane Egan were doing superb work in the forwards. St Kevins eventually pointed one of their frees before half time to leave it
M/B 0-04  St Kevins 0-01 at the break. St Kevins playing with the storm in the 2nd half quickly ate into M/B’s lead leaving 0-04 to 0-03. Brian Timmons was hurling out of his skin and his clearances set up Eoin Tuohy and Jack Casey for scores. Great work by Aaron Kennedy and Shane Egan set up a goal chance for Kevin Clohessy which was just about snuffed out by the St Kevins goalie. 2 more pointed frees from St Kevins followed to leave it very tight heading into the last 10 mins. Finn Hourigan, Conor Byrnes and David Quigley dealt with the St Kevins pressure and the ball was worked up the field where Dylan Sheehan was fouled and Kevin Clohessy pointed the free. St Kevins struck over another point to leave it M/B 0-07 St Kevins 0-06 with minutes remaining. With time nearly up St Kevins were awarded yet another free but thankfully it was blasted wide. The whistle was blown on puckout and captain Mike Dee lifted the cup on behalf of a delighted M/B squad.
