On Saturday last the u10s travelled to Shannon to take on the locals Wolfe Tones, Oranmore of Galway and Maynooth of Kildare in a blitz that turned out to be a very competitive affair. A total of 21 boys togged out for the club on this occasion which resulted in us fielding two teams to match that of the other clubs. Games took place on four pitches on a round robin basis which at its conclusion led to four finals to be played between the 8 teams. Our blue team won two of their three matches beating the locals and Maynooth while falling to a very impressive Oranmore while our green team had similar results beating the same opposition while losing to Oranmore. Our boys took part in the top two finals with Oranmore the opponents in both matches, unfortunately the results didnt go our way on this occasion. Oranmore had very strong and skillful sides with the majority of their players on the age, our panel contained a sprinkling of u8s and while that may have told in the physical stakes it definitely wasn’t obvious in the skill and heart stakes which pleased the coaches and supporters alike . Overall this was a great day for the lads and they will have learned a lot from the experience. A huge thanks must go to the parents and supporters who travelled and also to Wolfe Tones who put on a great day with lunch provided and medals for all the boys.
