U12 Hurling Shannon Challenge Tournament
Murroe Boher 2-1 Ballina 0-8
On Sunday morning we travelled down to Ballina to play the home side in the final of The Shannon Challenge Tournament. This was a tournament between teams around the Shannon area and consisted of teams from Limerick, Clare and Tipperary. We qualified for the final with wins against Mungret, Newport, Portroe and Scarriff/Ogonelloe but unfortunately just came up short against a strong Ballina team. We elected to play with the wind in the first half but we failed to make the pressure count going in at half time down 0-2 to 0-1. with our point coming from Michael Ryan.
Jack o Carroll got us off to a great start in the second half with an early goal to put Murroe Boher into the lead for the first time but 3 frees and a point from play put Ballina 2 points up with 5 minutes to go but up stepped jack O Carroll with another super goal to put us back in to the lead by the minimum. It was a rearguard action from here to the finish against a strong wind and 2 late points were enough to seal victory for Ballina. This was a fine performance from these young players who have been a credit to their Club Jersey all year.
