The U13 started preparation for the U13 County Championship with a challenge match at home to Mungret last Wednesday in Boher.
Most of the panel are available now as school has started back and the difference in play from their first challenge match last week was evident.
The full back line of Mark Nicholas, Michael Dunlea and Shane Bartley were superb throughout the match and with Cathal Barry between the sticks, Mungret were reduced to only the fewest attempts on goal and the majority of these were saved or stopped. The half back line of Eoghan Burke, Johnny Kelly and Sean O’Brien closed off any runs from Mungret and were excellent in clearing ball back down the field.
In the middle of the park David Hickey and Jack Nicholas were tireless in moving ball all over the pitch. Jack Nicholas showing why he has emerged as the natural Captain of the U13 team for the Championship. Playing with Michael Ryan, Sean Quigley and Michael Hourigan as half forwards we insured that the majority of balls were won and sent with accuracy into our front attacking players. Sean Quigley was outstanding at nullifying Mungrets key threat.
Colin Hackett, Jack O’Carroll and Brian Quigley started up front and were clinical in keeping Murroe Boher in the game. Also used on the night were Eoin Madigan who made an instance impact when he replaced Brian Quigley, Jack O’Sullivan replaced Colin Hackett and setup Jack O’Carroll with some great ball and Jack Stockil replaced Michael Hourigan who had run himself into the ground.
We would also like to thank Denis Richardson who refereed the match on short notice.
