Minor Hurling.

Our minor hurlers played their final group game versus St Michaels ( Claughan and Old Christians ) on Friday night 11th October in The Gaelic Grounds .

It was a great honour for the players to represent their club in the Pairc Na Gael.

The team lined out as follows Jack Casey, Brian Timmins, Dylan Ryan, John Coughlan, Finn Hourigan, Conor Byrnes, Kevin Clohessey, Darragh Kennedy, Dylan Sheehan, Killian Byrnes, Michael Dee, Eoin Hourigan , John Ryan, Conor Bartley, Aaron Kennedy, subs used Stephen Coughlan for A Kennedy, Shane Quigley for Eoin Hourigan, David Quigley for John Coughlan, John Coughlan for John Ryan, subs not used Ross Kennedy.

St Michael’s won the throw in but their player mistakenly hit the ball into our Full Forward line, we did not capitalize.

Murroe Boher had a penalty after a few minutes taken by M Dee but it was saved and cleared, the next attack saw Conor Bartley shot come off the upright for Aaron Kennedy to strike first time to the back of the net .

This was followed by a pointed free from M Dee, with the next score coming from a long range free from St Michael’s number 11 which although stopped by jack Casey unfortunately dropped into the net. The next phase of scores all came to Murroe Boher with points from M Dee, K Clohessey, C Bartley and Dylan Sheehan to put us in a lead of 1-6 to 1-0, only for T Michaels to finish the half with a 1-1 return within minute. Half time score was Murroe Boher 1-6 to St Michael’s 2-1.

The second half saw some changes in Murroe Boher formation with M Dee being moved to corner forward and john Coughlan introduced at corner forward, but with little return we only scored 1 point from a free before St Michael’s sensing a chance of a result pulled off the next 3 points from play and were coming into the game led by their full back and centre back, points from  no’s 9, 10 and 13.

Kevin Clohessey was switched into free taking duties and scored a  65 to steady the team. Killian Byrnes won a great ball under pressure, turned to beat his man and head for goal, Killian shot from 50 meters to score a wonderful point and you could sense our lads had weathered the storm.

After some great performances in defence from Dylan Ryan, Brian Timmins, David Quigley our half back line of Kevin, Finn and Conor who played very well and strong work from Darragh Kennedy who having scored a great point from play was awarded a free instead, only for it to be struck wide, it was left to Dylan Sheehan to score the last point from play.

Result on the night was Murroe Boher 1-10 to St Michael’s  2-5.

Scorers Aaron Kennedy 1 goal, M Dee 3 pts(2 frees), E Hourigan 1 pt, K Clohessey 2pts (1 65), C Bartley 1 pt, D Sheehan 2 pts, K Byrnes 1 pt,

Well done to all the players on the night with  improvement in team play and free taking accuracy the team have the players to progress further in the competition, as we now approach the knock out stages .
