U-16 Girls Gaelic Football A County Final Murroe Boher 2-10 St Bridgets 2-14
Murroe Boher Girls Gaelic Football.
The u-16 girls contested the A County Final last Wednesday in South Liberties v St Bridgets. After a fantastic game of football Murroe Boher lost out on a scoreline of 2-14 to 2-10. The 1st half was an extremely tight affair with defences well on top for both sides. Amy o Brien opened the scoring for Murroe/Boher with a well taken point. Further points from Lisa Leonard, Alannagh Russell and Grainne Regan kept us well in touch. Then just before half time, after a superb length of the pitch move, Amy O Brien finished smartly to the net to give us a 1 point advantage at half time. 1-04 to 0-06. St Bridgets started the 2nd half the brighter and tacked on 3 points to an Alannagh Russell reply for Murroe/Boher. Then Murroe Boher scored a fantastic goal after a 50 metre run by Grainne Regan, beating 4 defenders, before smashing the ball into the top corner of the net. Aoife Barry then made two outstanding saves when goals looked certain. The game turned in the 47th minute when St Bridgets broke up an attack and swept up field to score an excellent goal. Within 60 seconds a 2nd goal by Bridgets gave us a mountain to climb. 4 further points by Grainne Regan and scores from Orla Regan and Alannagh Russell narrowed the scoreline to 4 points but unfortunately time ran out for us. Saoirse Barry and Anna Ryan were immense as was Mikaela O Connor at full back. Lisa Leonard & Aine Cooke worked tirelessly in attack and the contribution of Sarah Jane Barry Rebecca Lee and Mary O Reilly in defence cannot be overstated. The introduction of Sarah Clohessy and Nicole Whelan added much needed impetus to the game and the contribution all year of Laura Walsh and the injured Niamh Holmes has to be recognised. Our two midfielders on the night Aisling Regan and Shauna Ryan showed why they were the Limerick midfielders in the All Ireland series with another excellent performance. This was a superb match of the highest quality and well done to St Bridgets on their victory. With 12 of the starting 15 underage again next year for Murroe Boher the team and management vowed to leave no stone unturned to bring the title to the parish next year.
